Kijiji vs BestLawn

Kijiji suits one-time cheap jobs, not ongoing service fit. BestLawn is a living directory built to match Homeowner need to the Right Pro

Jul 20, 2026

Kijiji has a reputation that is currently fighting hard against Facebook Marketplace for products…. but for services, Kijiji can work when someone wants something cheap, quick, or nearby worker.
This can be great to fill in spare time as you grow, but with the costs and no guarantees, . BestLawn works when a homeowner wants an operator who's still doing the work next season, not just this once.

        “Is This Still Available?”

Kijiji has one clear strength: people check it when they want something cheap, quick, or nearby. That can work for certain jobs, like a one-time mow, a small cleanup, or a student with a mower for a homeowner who just needs help once and doesn't want to overthink it, and there's nothing wrong with that lane.

There's also a cost most people don't expect. Posting a lawn care ad on Kijiji lands in the Services category, and Services listings now carry a per-ad insertion fee, so the "free classified" is not free to start with. Getting seen costs more again. A plain ad sinks down the page as newer ones post, and staying near the top means paying for promotion: a Top Ad spot, a Bump Up, or one of Kijiji's visibility packages. Reported fees have run from a few dollars to around fifteen per ad depending on category and city, with promotion priced on top. And where do you appear on this list? Below the most recent bidders who are more recent to buy their temporary slot. For a business trying to stay visible week after week, it becomes a recurring bill sometimes daily for a post that still disappears.

This also turns cities that are not highly populated into ghost-towns and most operators who want to develop contracts and seasonal agreements (you know, regular clients and securing year-round revenue?) have largely given up.

        Kijiji Tire Kickers

The most well-discussed issue with Kijiji are the tire kickers. (*There are many fine customers on kijiji and the platform works very well as it is designed!) This platform is sort of known by Canadians as more like a garage sale and most offers and products are usually discounted heavily. Used products like cars, kids clothes, and electronics, and a service side. The same thrifty expectation seems to permeate the services as well with many online mentions of customers who only want to pay a few dollars or worse they are not home when the job is done!

This platform also has very little control over regional density. Lower populations find this directory low-traffic and not really worth paying for even if it’s reduced. For those who do call, one-time jobs expanding windshield time can make that customer expensive before the first cut is even done. That doesn't mean walk away from it. As a solo operator still building density, Kijiji can still bring in real leads, and if it's working for you, keep using it. But if you have worked out a “cost per acquisition” based on your kijiji spend, don’t forget to include the travel time and the low-ballers.

Lawn care is not always a one-off task. A good fit depends on route density, crew size, equipment, gate access, payment method, and season, plus whether the operator wants weekly work, cleanup work, snow work, or some mix of all three, which is too much to squeeze into a disposable classified post.

        Built to Last with BestLawn

BestLawn isn't built around gig work. It's built to present your company as a living, active, ready business, for homeowners who aren't searching for a one-time job at all. It helps them compare local operators by service area, seasonal availability, contact links, and the details that shape a real call, and for operators, the value isn't a random post that fades. It's a profile that stays current.

We also market for high intent high quality commercial search. Our primary traffic to the Directory is comprised of people who know wha they want, and are tired of dead ends, unreturned calls, and have considered what their lawn needs.

Three-minute read. Two poll questions. Once a week. Zero dollars. Plus a directory presence that moves with the season and stays current as long as you keep showing up.

Good: Kijiji can help with one-time jobs and quick local visibility.

Better: A clear classified can work when price and speed matter most.

BestLawn: A living directory for operators and homeowners who need fit, seasonality, and real contact details.

        Good. Better. BestLawn.
