Snow removal in Saskatoon runs on a 48 hour clock for most homes. Sidewalk Clearing Bylaw No. 8463 gives residential property owners 48 hours after a snowfall to clear the City sidewalks around their property, and some corridors give you only 24.
What the bylaw requires
The cleared path has to be flat and wide enough for wheelchairs and mobility aids, not a single shovel width down the middle.
Snow cleared from the sidewalk cannot go onto the City street. It goes on your own property.
The 24 hour streets
Certain busier corridors run on a 24 hour clock instead of 48, including stretches of Broadway Avenue, Primrose Drive, Warman Road, McOrmond Drive, Attridge Drive, Central Avenue and Herold Road.
If you live on one of those, do not assume you have two days. Check before the first snowfall rather than after the ticket.
What it costs to miss
Enforcement is complaint-based, so nothing happens until someone reports it. Once it does, the City can send a contractor and add the cost to your tax roll.
Fines run from $100 up to $1,000 depending on how many offences you have accumulated.

When to book
September. If that’s too late, then right now. Routes fill before the first real snowfall, because a company can only serve so many properties in the hours between a snowfall ending and your deadline.
The services for snow clearing means each snow event every single customer needs a visit. That means everything needs doing as fast as possible. While some areas may have up to 48hrs, it is important to note that it’s very hard to work for 48 hours straight! Deep snowfall takes longer, traffic jams are more likely in winter, and there’s always something in the way of getting work done! It’s just a reality of the business. So we recommend to book early and make sure they work in your area already!
That clock does not pause because you are away, or because the snow is heavy and you are 78. If either describes your winter, a seasonal contract is the reliable answer.
What to ask before you book
What is your trigger depth, and is it measured at my property or citywide
Do you clear the sidewalk, or only the driveway
Am I on a 24 hour street, and does that change your schedule
How many hours after a snowfall ends do you arrive
Seasonal contract, per visit, or storm call
DO YOU ALREADY HAVE CLIENTS IN MY AREA!
This is particularly important! Even if they have to drive 20 minutes to get to you, if a Snow Removal Pro has only you in a neighborhood, that means at least an hour for 1 person and a rate you probably wouldn’t like very much
